Sacred Heart For Sinners
In the month of June, we celebrate the greatest love known to man: Jesus’ Sacred Heart. From 1673 to 1675, Jesus appeared to the French Visitation nun, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, and gave her stirring revelations concerning His Sacred Heart. One of Jesus’ most moving and convicting messages is the following:
And [opening] to me His Divine Heart: ‘Behold this Heart which has so loved men that It spared nothing, even going so far as to exhaust and consume Itself, to prove to them Its love. And in return, I receive from the greater part of men nothing but ingratitude, by the contempt, irreverence, sacrileges and coldness with which they treat Me in this Sacrament of Love.’”
Jesus holds back nothing from His Bride, the Church. First, it was the crib; then it was the Cross. Now He remains hidden in the Holy Eucharist, only to be treated with coldness and ingratitude by many souls. Jesus proves His love for us at every moment, not only by what He did for us—dying for us—but also by what He continues to do for us: pouring out every grace from His Sacred Heart so that our hearts might be united with His. Unfortunately, our hearts are broken and divided by sin. We seek love in all the wrong places, including impure images and relationships.
Jesus’ Heart in the Holy Eucharist is a burning fire of love, like the burning bush in the Old Testament. On Mount Horeb, Moses came face to face with God, who said to him, “Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground” (Ex. 3:5). Then God revealed Himself from the burning bush: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God (Ex. 3:6).
On June 11, 2026, as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The following day, June 12, the Catholic Church will celebrate the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Jesus’ Sacred Heart is the only love that can truly satisfy us. His Heart is the remedy for our lust. Let us consecrate our homes, our families, and our hearts to the greatest love of all: Jesus Himself. Let us ask Him to give us pure hearts that love Him and others without reserve. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is for sinners!
